Scorpio Worldwide
Responsive website concepts for a leading global travel retail and inflight distribution company.
Challenge
Scorpio Worldwide had built a 20-year reputation on personal relationships and exceptional service, but their digital presence didn't match their market standing. The challenge was to create a website that would work for multiple audiences – from airline buyers and travel retail concessionaires to brand partners – while showcasing their extensive portfolio of products across watches, jewellery, electronics, and beauty categories. The site needed to communicate both their entrepreneurial spirit and their backing by the prestigious Gebr Heinemann group.
My Role
I was responsible for the web experience concepts and visual design. Working closely with the Shoot the Moon team and Scorpio's management, I:
- Conducted stakeholder interviews to understand the diverse needs of their B2B audience (airlines, concessionaires, brand partners).
- Developed information architecture that organized their vast product portfolio into clear, browsable categories.
- Designed responsive page concepts that worked from mobile up to desktop, recognizing that buyers would access the site from various contexts.
- Created UI patterns and components that balanced professionalism with the approachable, family-business values that defined Scorpio.
- Designed product showcase pages that highlighted key brands like Aviator, Just Cavalli, Pierre Cardin, Revlon, and Victoria's Secret.
- Prepared presentation materials for client review that demonstrated how the website could support their business development goals.
Website concept
I created a comprehensive set of responsive page concepts for Scorpio Worldwide that showcased their extensive product portfolio across multiple categories. The designs featured clean, professional layouts with strong product photography and clear categorization to help B2B buyers quickly find relevant brands and products.
The homepage concept introduced visitors to Scorpio's story and values, while category pages organized their vast portfolio of watches, jewellery, accessories, and beauty products. Product detail pages highlighted key brands like Aviator watches, Just Cavalli accessories, Pierre Cardin jewellery, and Revlon beauty products with compelling imagery and comprehensive product information.
Scorpio Logo
The Scorpio Worldwide brand identity needed to communicate both their entrepreneurial roots as a family business and their professional standing as a major player in global travel retail backed by Gebr Heinemann.
The visual system balanced approachability with professionalism, using confident typography and a neutral color palette that allowed their extensive product photography to take center stage. The logo and brand elements worked effectively across both digital and print applications.
The Scorpio Brand Palette
The color palette for Scorpio Worldwide needed to strike a balance between professionalism and approachability while reflecting the luxury brands they distribute. I selected a sophisticated neutral gray as the primary color, complemented by darker shades and lighter accents. This palette provided the flexibility needed for a B2B travel retail brand while keeping the focus on their diverse luxury product photography and premium brand partnerships.
Results
The responsive website concepts provided Scorpio Worldwide with a clear digital strategy that matched their market position. The designs showcased how they could present their extensive product portfolio in an organized, accessible way while telling their unique growth story – from a £1 million startup to a major player in global travel retail backed by Gebr Heinemann.
The concepts demonstrated how the website could serve as an effective tool for business development, helping them attract new airline partners and brand relationships while reinforcing their reputation for exceptional customer service and long-term partnerships in the travel retail industry.
