Upon disembarkation, B2B customers are given a chocolate as thank you for flying. Flybe wanted to improve customer retentions by using new technologies.

Challenge

Flybe stated that the chocolate must be used as part of the solution. Layar/Blippar were very popular technologies during this time and I wanted to leverage a solution that used them.

It made sense then that the wrapper for the chocolate could be scannable. I wanted to also take the opportunity to use the app as a way of keeping track of points and to spend them them on rewards.

Information at your fingertips

Passengers could discover more about their destination through affiliations created with hotels, taxi firms and restaurants etc. Up to the minute News & Weather could be incorporated and would ensure they are informed and prepared for their journey ahead. Maybe even view the latest flybe flight schedule to ensure passengers board their next connecting flight in good time.

Passengers could keep track of their current loyalty points balance with a system personalised to them.

There is a points exchange program including prize draws and 3rd party rewards such as pamper days, hotel upgrades, free parking, as well as money off a passengers next flybe flight.

The BeConnected Network

GPS would indicate the density of passengers across flybe destinations. Frequent flyers could create a B2B network by connecting with other flybe business customers in a chosen destination city, the connected “network”.

Zooming into individual destinations would reveal other frequent flyers and provide an opportunity to leverage appropriate social platforms such as LinkedIn or Twitter

The BeConnected Network

Scannable flybe triggers could appear in many locations and each with loyalty points. The disembarkment chocolate for example would be worth a larger amount given that the passenger has just flown flybe. Each trigger would be unique. This would ensure the trigger cannot be scanned more than once and also ensure points are allocated correctly.

Passengers could also share their activity with Social networks to encourage friends and other associates to get involved. All this activity ultimately creates more exposure to the app and thus the flybe network.

Results

I came up with a novel solution to tie the disembarkment chocolate up with an app that keeps a track of loyalty points.
